Das Branding hat Spass gebracht. Alle haben mitgemacht. Und um 12 Uhr mittags waren wir fertig und haben bei Cori und Earl gegessen. Nick war ganz begeistert von Kadoka. Der sonst etwas schreckhafte Wallach zeigte sich von seiner besten Seite und zog ein Kalb nach dem anderen aus dem Korral. Mehr Fotos folgen am Ende der Woche.

The branding was fun. Everyone helped. And at noon we were done and ate lunch at Cori's and Earl's house. Nick was excited about Kadoka. The usually spooky gelding was all business and pulled one calf after another out of the corral. More photos at the end of the week.

Vom Viehtrieb zum Branding / From cattle drive to branding

Nach einigen aktiven Tagen (Team Penning, Schiessen, Ropen, Reiten, Devils Tower-Besuch etc.) wurden am Mittwoch unsere Kuehe und Kaelber in drei grossen Trucks aus Montana angeliefert. Mit dabei war auch Flaschenkalb Oreo, die mittlerweile Gesellschaft von Maybelline bekommen hat, einem Kalb, dessen Mutter leider gestorben ist. 

After a few active days (team penning, shooting, roping, riding, visiting Devils Tower etc.) on Wednesday, our cows and calves were delivered from Montana in three big trucks. On the truck was bottle calf Oreo. In the meantime she has been joined by Maybelline, a calf whose mother unfortunately died.

Nachdem wir die Kuehe mit den gerade geborenen Kaelbern aussortiert hatten, trieben wir die Herde auf eine neue Weide, wo wir sie jeden Tag checken, denn noch immer werden neue Kaelber geboren.

After we sorted out the cows with the newborn calves, we moved the herd to a new pasture where we check them every day since there are still calves being born. 

Am Samstag reisten Lisa und Alexander aus Schweden an, ausserdem Christine und Doris aus Oesterreich und Dennis, Randall und Ron aus Missouri. Heute waren wir bereits bei einem Branding, von dem ich im naechsten Blog berichten werde. Und endlich haben wir Lisa (aus Deutschland) wieder hier ... viele Gruesse an Andreas!

On Saturday Lisa and Alexander from Sweden arrived, also Christine and Doris from Austria as well as Dennis, Randall and Ron from Missouri. Today we were at a branding about which I'll write in the next blog. And finally we have Lisa (from Germany) back again ... greetings to Andreas!

Es regnet hin und wieder, so dass wir dieses Jahr wieder Hoffnung auf eine Heuernte haben.

It rains once in a while so that we have hope again to harvest hay this year.

Diese Woche ist unglaublich schnell vergangen. Veronika, Marielle, Janine, Susan und Barb werden uns morgen schon wieder verlassen. Dagmar, Stefan und Lena bleiben noch eine Woche. Ein ausfuehrlicher Bericht mit Fotos folgt am Sonntag. Anbei nur ein Foto vom heutigen Viehtrieb, bei dem wir unsere gut 120 Kuehe mit Kaelber auf eine neue Weide getrieben haben. Und zwei Flaschenkaelber haben wir auch ...

This week has sped by amazingly fast. Veronika, Marielle, Janine, Susan and Barb are already leaving us tomorrow again. Dagmar, Stefan and Lena will stay another week. A detailed blog with photos will follow on Sunday. Above just a pic from today's cattle drive where we moved our more than 120 cows with calves onto a new pasture. And we have two bottle calves as well ...

Riding in the rain / Reiten im Regen

Seit Samstag regnet es ... Nick und ich freuen uns, aber unsere Gaeste sind nicht so begeistert. Doch was ein richtiges Cowgirl ist (oder ein richtiger Cowboy), steigt trotzdem aufs Pferd. Heute sind alle mit Nick und Lance beim Nachbarn, um ihm bei der Rinderarbeit zu helfen. Gestern haben alle Ropen und Schiessen geuebt und waren dann am Devils Tower, in der Ponderosa Bar und bei den Amishen Nachbarn, um Zaum- und Sattelzeug zu kaufen. Und morgen soll schon wieder die Sonne scheinen.

It has been raining since Saturday ... Nick and I are happy, our guests less so. But whoever calls themselves a real cowgirl (or cowboy), mounts up anyway. Today everyone is riding out with Nick and Lance to help the neighbor work his cows. Yesterday they learned how to rope and shoot and then visited Devils Tower, the Ponderosa Bar and the Amish neighbors where they bought leather tack. And tomorrow the sun is supposed to shine again.

Nick und Lance haben fast die ganze Woche Zaeune gebaut und sind kaum zum Reiten gekommen. Dafuer waren die Maedels unterwegs. Auch ich bin endlich auf Twister ausgeritten. Er ist noch jung und weiss wenig, aber er lernt schnell. Bei seinen raumgreifenden Bewegungen kommt man sich vor wie auf einem Schlachtschiff. So ergeht es auch Sanny auf Apache, der sich in den vergangenen zwei Wochen sehr gut entwickelt hat.

Nick and Lance fenced most of the week and did not have much time to go riding. The girls did, though. And I finally went on a trail ride with Twister. He is still young and does not know much but he is a fast learner. His long steps make you feel like riding on a battle ship. Same for Sanny on Aapche who really developed quite a bit during the last two weeks.

Am Samstag kommen dann Marielle und Veronika aus Schweden, Susan und Barb aus den USA sowie Stefan, Dagmar, Lena und Janine aus Deutschland. Und wir muessen uns von Sanny und Anna verabschieden.

They will arrive on Saturday: Marielle and Veronika from Sweden, Susan and Barb from the US as well as Stefan, Dagmar, Lena and Janine from Germany. And we have to say bye to Sanny and Anna.

Blogger will jetzt, dass man seine Fotos mit Google Chrome hochlaedt ... nicht gerade die feine Art, aber es geht tatsaechlich schneller. Naja.

Blogger wants you to use Google Chrome to upload photos ... not very polite of them but it's at least faster. Well.

Wir geniessen das schoene Wetter, obwohl sich die Trockenheit schon wieder bemerkbar macht. Noch kehren Truthahnjaeger ein und aus, aber die Saison naehert sich ihrem Ende. Die Pferde geniessen das erste Gras (wir stellen sie langsam von Heu auf Weide um). Nick hat die Saat ausgebracht. Wir reparieren auf der Ranch, was repariert werden muss. Die Pferde sind alle entwurmt (dank Lance, Sanny und Anna eine Sache von Minuten). Das Sattelzeug wird gewaschen und geoelt. Und auch das neue/alte Clohaeuschen fuer den New Haven-Friedhof ist endlich aufgebaut.

We are enjoying the nice weather even though it is getting too dry again. We still have turkey hunters come and go but the season is closing soon. The horses are enjoying their first grass (we take some time to take them off hay and put them on grass). Nick has done his farming. We are repairing what needs to be repaired. The horses are wormed (thanks to Lance, Sanny and Anna a matter of minutes). The tack is washed and oiled. And even the old/new outhouse for the New Haven cemetery has been put up.

Die Kuehe und Kaelber kommen in ca. einer Woche aus Montana. Und die ersten Reitgaeste am kommenden Samstag. Gestern haben wir Anja abgeholt. Gaense und Enten brueten, den Huehnern nehmen wir die Eier ja weg. Gauge und Sip haben sich arrangiert, obwohl der junge Sip manchmal zu viel Energie fuer den alten Gauge hat. Und die Katzen und Kater mischen sich wie immer in alles ein.

Our cows and calves will come from Montana in about one week. The first riding guests will come next Saturday. Yesterday we picked up Anja. Geese and ducks are sitting on their nests, the chickens would, too if we did not take their eggs away. Gauge and Sip get along fine even though young Sip is sometimes too rambunctious for old Gauge. And the cats and toms are in the middle of it all as usual.

Ich muss mal wieder Buchhaltung machen *grummel*
