Was ist ein Beeffalo? / What is a beeffalo?

And again Cinderella: While mama is looking desperately for her, the daughter is stealing the horses' hay (here with Classy and Patch). In the background the lodge.

Mike, the new wrangler, and his dog Stubby (a corgi) have arrived. Thanks to his GPS Mike managed to find the ranch in the dark. Like us he is convinced of Natural Horsemanship ... and we are looking forward to working with him.

Now we are waiting for the arrival of our first beeffalo (cross of cattle and bison): A heifer is pregnant and if it wasn't the neighbor's bull, then Junior must have been active. We brought the official breeding bull into the herd at the end of July, too late for a birth in February.

Warten auf den Wrangler / Waiting for the wrangler

Nick, Brandy and I worked on a new logo today. It was not easy to accommodate all three opinions but now we are all happy with the result ... which I will show you once the grafic designer has put it together.

Our new wrangler is on the way to us. He comes from Idaho und needs 14 hours for the trip ... we are curious.

The wrangler takes care of the horses, trains them, trims their hooves, repairs tha tack, builds fences, and moves livestock together with our summer riding guests. Last year Mike (Copher) did the job and all who know him, will never forget him. Mike wanted to try something new but he still lives in the neighborhood and visits us once in a while. The new wrangler's name is Mike (Hoene) as well.

Ein Nagel nach dem anderen / One nail after the other

While I feed critters and sit in front of the PC, some people do real work ;-) Nick (above) and Brandy (below) are building at the stucco house which will house the wrangler and our seasonal help this coming summer. There is still lots to do ...

Auch Cowboys und Cowgirls sind eitel / Cowboys and cowgirls can be vain as well

NH fuer New Haven Ranch.

This is our brand ... on the buckle I gave Nick for Christmas and as a pendant with a silver rope which Nick had made for me for Valentine's day. It's pronounced "Rafter NH". NH for New Haven. Now we have to buy a belt for the buckle ...

And I was right: When Heike and I went to Rapid City yesterday to pick up our new Paint horse Bailey, she used all tricks to convince me to give the horse to her ... but hey, I am not blonde ;-)

Der Treppenbauer / The stair case builder

At 6 am Nick decided that he wanted to build the spiral stair case in the stucco house today - Sunday. Okay, I started feeding at 7 am and took this photo of sunrise.

Nick and I are not extreme early birds but we don't like to sleep in late either. Staying in bed past 8 am does not work for us. Luckily we agree on that.

At noon we are invited to eat lunch at JoAnn's. We will probably watch some of the Olympic Games. At some point I really need to connect our TV antenna because I miss the Oscars every year ... and they are one of the shows I reaaly enjoy ... other than documentaries and movies wich we have sent to us by mail.
