Ein paar Bilder von gestern Abend, als wir gecheckt haben, wie es den Pferden geht ... tagsueber minus 15 bis minus 20 Grad Celsius, nachts viel kaelter. Wie machen die Tiere das nur? Ich friere sogar mit Kleidung und Decken in unserem Haus ... das allerdings nur unterm Dach isoliert ist, nicht in den Waenden und am Fussboden. Heute Abend gehts nach Hulett, Ritas Abschied feiern. Am Sonntag muss sie wieder in die Schweiz fliegen ...

A few pics from yesterday evening when we checked on the horses ... less than 0 degrees Fahrenheit during the day, much colder (down to negative 20 Fahrenheit) in the night. How do the animals deal with that? I am cold with clothes and blankets in our house ... which only has insulation in the roof, though. Not the walls and the floor. Tonight we are going to Hulett. Rita is having a good-bye party. On Sunday she has to leave for Switzerland again ...

Noch vor unserem grossen Viehtrieb am Freitag waren 30 unserer Jaherlinge auf Nachbars Koppel gelangt und hatten sich unter Kuehe, Kaelber und Bullen gemischt. Gestern machten Nick, Anke, Petra, Anne und ich uns auf, um die Ausreisser herauszusortieren und weiter zu einer Nachbarransch zu treiben. Sieben Stunden waren wir unterwegs und dann nicht nur mit der Arbeit fertig, sondern auch koerperlich.

Some time before our big cattle drive on Friday 30 or so of our yearlings had gotten onto neighbor's pasture and mingled with the cows, calves and bulls there. Yesterday Nick, Anke, Petra, Anne and I took of to cut the strays out of neighbor's herd and move them to another neighbor's ranch. We rode for seven hours and were not only finished with our work after that but also physically.

Ride a horse, feed a cowboy!

Nach dreieinhalb Stunden hatten sie die 30 Kilometer geschafft (s. Blog von gestern). Oben seht Ihr vier muede Pferde: Tucker, Pep, Pal und Pinkerton (v.l.n.r.) mit Wrangler. Unten Hannes, Andy, Heini und Anthony beim Abritt von der Ranch. Der Abend endete mit Essen und Tanz.

It took them three and a half hours to cover the 20 miles to Hulett (s. blog from yesterday). Above you see four tired horses: Tucker, Pep, Pal and Pinkerton (from left to right) with wrangler. Below Hannes, Andy, Heini and Anthony at the departure from the ranch. The evening ended with food and dancing.

Am Samstag mussten sich dann auch Hannes und Heini schweren Herzens von New Haven trennen. Ich fuhr sie zum Flughafen, wo sie einen Mietwagen abholten, um noch eine weitere Woche die Gegend zu erkunden ... und noch mehr Westernkleidung zu kaufen :-) Abends wollten sie schon wieder in Hulett sein, um bei einem Country-Konzert dabei zu sein.

On Saturday Hannes and Heini had to leave as well, not very happily. I brought them to the airport where the picked up a rental to discover the Black Hills for another week ... and to shop even more Western clothing :-) In the evening they wanted to be back in Hulett for a country concert.

Regen im Mai / Rain in May

Es regnet mal wieder ... wir haben es satt ... auch das Paradies ist nicht perfekt. Deshalb ein Foto, das uns an den Sommer erinnert (Lisa auf Tucker). Und ich muss zurueck an den Computer: Buchhaltung *grummel*

That's it ... ich schaffe es einfach nicht mehr, jedem von Euch einzeln zu antworten. Und obwohl ich seit ueber sieben Jahren fern der Zivilisation auf einer Ranch in den Black Hills von Wyoming lebe, habe auch ich von Blogs gehoert. Gesagt, getan ... Ihr werdet von jetzt ab taeglich lesen koennen, was hier im Wilden Westen so alles passiert. Natuerlich mit Foto(s). Die wichtigsten Infos findet Ihr aber nach wie vor auf unserer Homepage (s.u.).

That's it ... I simply don't have the time to answer each of your emails seperately anymore. And even though I have been living far from civilization on a ranch in the Black Hills of Wyoming for more than seven years, I have heard about blogs.
