Und noch einmal Stock Show / And again stock show

Da war ja noch was ... die Black Hills Stock Show. Sie wurde 1958 in Rapid City, South Dakota ins Leben gerufen und zieht jedes Jahr um die 300.000 Besucher an. Die Attraktionen: Neben Pferden werden natuerlich auch Rinder verkauft, in diesem Fall huebsch gefoente Angus, Hereford, Charolais, Gelbvieh, Simmental, Limousin etc. Es finden "normale" Rodeos statt, aber auch ein Ranchrodeo, bei dem sich Ranchteams in Geschicklichkeitsaufgaben messen. Beim Sheep Dog Trial (s. Photo) duerfen Border Collies und Co. zeigen, wie toll sie Schafe treiben koennen. Und es gibt sogar einen feierlichen Ball. Ich fahre natuerlich auch gern hin, um zu bummeln und einzukaufen. Zahlreiche Aussteller bieten alles an von Sattelzeug und Westernschmuck ueber Traktoren und Wildlife-Fotografie bis hin zu Heu-Ringen und Cowboyhueten. Alles in allem eine nette Unterbrechung im langen Wild West-Winter.

I almost forgot ... the Black Hills Stock Show. The first one took place in Rapid City, South Dakota in 1958 and now draws about 300,000 visitors each year. The attractions: horse sales as well as cattle sales with meticulously blow-dried Angus, Hereford, Charolais, Gelbvieh, Simmental, Limousin etc. They have "normal" rodeos but also a ranch rodeo where ranch teams compete with each other showing their occupational skills. And during the sheep dog trial (s. picture) Border Collies and Co. show how well they can herd sheep. There even is a festive ball one night. I also like to go to the stock show to browse and shop. Lots of vendors sell tack and Western jewelry, tractors and wildlife photography, hay rings and cowboy hats. All in all a nice break from the long Wild West winter.
