Was ein richtiger Cowboy ist, reitet keinen Appaloosa. Zur Begruendung hoert man dann diesen Witz: "Warum reiten Indianer Appaloosas? Weil sie bereits waehrend des Ritts zur naechsten Schlacht so wuetend werden, dass sie jeden Feind in die Flucht schlagen." Wir haben 30 Pferde, einen Esel ... und einen Appaloosa namens Ginger. Und Ginger machte ihrer Rasse am Samstag mal wieder alle Ehre.Real cowboys don't ride Appaloosas. Why? You get to hear the following joke: "Why do Indians ride Appaloosas? Because the Indians already get so mad while riding to the next battle, that they will win over any enemy." We have 30 horses, 1 donkey ... and one Appaloosa named Ginger. On Saturday Ginger lived up to her breed's reputation.
Nick, JoAnns Schwiegertochter Gracie (die gerade auf Besuch ist) und ich wollten die Herde (bis auf ein paar Pferde, die wir an der Ranch behalten) auf die Winterweide treiben. Nick auf dem Motorrad, Gracie und ich auf Quads. Fuer eine Strecke, die uns nur 15 Minuten haette kosten sollen, brauchten wir ca. drei Stunden, weil Ginger froehlich vorweg galoppierte und die Herde ueberall hinfuehrte als in die gewuenschte Richtung. In dem schwierigen Gelaende voller steiler und bewaldeter Canyons konnte irgendwann nur noch Nick auf dem Motorrad folgen, und ich machte Fotos aus weiter Ferne (Draufklicken hilft.). Samstagabend hatte ich Appetit auf Appaloosa-Steak ;-)
Nick, JoAnn's daughter-in-law Gracie (who is just visiting) and I wanted to move the herd (other than a few horses which we'll keep at the ranch) to a winter pasture. Nick on the motorcycle, Gracie and I on 4-wheelers. For a distance that we could have covered in 15 minutes, we needed about three hours because Ginger happily galopped in front and led the herd astray whereever and whenever she could. In a difficult terrain with lots of steep and timbered canyons at some point only Nick could follow and I took photos from the distance (clicking on them helps). Saturday night I had an appetite for Appaloosa steak ;-)
