Klar, die Tiere muessen immer gefuettert werden, obwohl die grosse Pferdeherde und die Rinder momentan noch auf Weide sind. Aber wir haben auch Huehner, Enten, Gaense, Katzen, Schafe und Ziegen sowie Waisenkalb Anabel. Hund Gauge und Hauskatze Trouble nicht zu vergessen.

But we also have chickens, ducks, geese, cats, sheep, goats and orphan calf Anabel. Not to mention dog Gauge and house cat Trouble.Aber nur wirklich Verrueckte - wie hier Brandy und Nick - bauen bei diesen Temperaturen Zaeune. Es sei zu ihrer Verteidigung gesagt, dass sie keine andere Wahl haben. In wenigen Tagen werden 500 Ziegenkinder angeliefert, und die haelt kein normaler Holz-, Strom- oder Stacheldrahtzaun. Ziegen sind wahre Ausbruchskuenstler, fuer sie muessen wir einen Gitterzaun errichten, den sie weder ueberspringen noch untergraben und durch den sie auch nicht durchschluepfen koennen. Hier sollen die sechs Monate alten Ziegen fuer den Verkauf fett gemacht werden. Fuer Ziegenfleisch wird mehr bezahlt als fuer Rindfleisch, weil zahlreiche ethnische Minderheiten in den USA aus religioesen Gruenden nur Ziegenfleisch essen duerfen.
But only crazy people - as here Brandy and Nick - build fences in these temperatures. In their defense I have to mention that they don't have a choice. In a few days 500 goat kids will move onto the ranch. And they cannot be kept by regular wooden, electric or barb wire fences. Goats are real escapees. We need to build a mesh wire fence that they can neither jump over nor dig under nor slip through. The six months old goats will be fed here to get fat for sale. Goat meat is more expensive than beef because quite a few ethnic minorities in the US will for religious reasons only eat goat.Brandy, Brandon, Nick und ich besitzen ca. 1200 Ziegen, die zur Unkrautbekaempfung auf Ranches, aber auch zur Landreklamation und Feuerkontrolle auf Staatsland eingesetzt werden. http://www.terravita.ag Eine Herde ist in Montana, die andere eine halbe Stunde entfernt am Devils Tower. Einige der Zicklein, die jedes Fruehjahr geboren werden, bleiben in der Herde, um alte und kranke Tiere zu erzetzen. Das Gros geht nach ca. neun Monaten in die Schlachtung.
Brandy, Brandon, Nick and I own about 1200 goats which are used for weed control on ranches but also for land reclamation and fire control on public land. Some of the goats that are born each spring go back into the herd to replace old and sick animals. Most of them though will be butchered at nine months of age.Waehrend Brandon und Brandy das Programm managen und Nick als Berater fungiert, darf ich im Fruehling ein oder zwei Waisenzicklein mit der Flasche gross ziehen. Alle, die diesen Sommer hier waren, erinnern sich an Lotte, die suesseste Ziege der Welt, die den April mehr oder weniger in unserer Kueche verbracht hat.
While Brandon and Brandy manage the goat program and Nick consults, each spring I have the pleasure to raise one or two orphaned goat kids with the bottle.
