Friday morning there was another branding ... I had to drive to South Dakota, though to pick up our second stock trailer from Brandon. At noon, after some guests had practiced wrestling calves, we took two trucks, two stock trailer and eleven horses over to Busenitz’. Together with Travis, Annie, Philip, Tim and Wacey we started on a 20 mile ride across Wyoming’s sagebrush prairie to move more than a 1000 head of cattle to another pasture. Most of the time we trotted … I was lucky to ride Bailey who has very smooth gaits.

We had to cross several creeks, the prairie swarmed with rattle snakes which feed on the many prairie dogs out here. Our horses don’t care too much one way or the other and they paid attention not to step into the prairie dog holes.

In the evening we all met up at Travis‘ and his wife Johny’s place to grill. After the second long ride Peter and Martin can still walk … even if somewhat slower ;-) The hot tub helps as well …

On Saturday Anthony had off and Brandy took our guests on a ride on our ranch to move two separate herds of cattle together and cut out neighbor’s bull which had jumped the fence. Gilbert was thrilled by our mare Jazz who took her work really seriously. It was supposed to be a shorter ride but the cowboys and -girls took five hours to come back home … Peter and Martin are still alive ;-)

Andy and I had to take care of the lodge and the cooking. Needs to be done as well. Today – Sunday – Brandy is off … Andy and I are gonna grill steak, from the ranch production, of course. Nikki and Bridger have left but Brandon’s parents are visiting now.
