Rasende Amazonen / Racing amazons

Heute kommt der zweite Teil unserer kleinen Video-Serie ueber Rodeos: das Barrel-Racing. Auch Maenner reiten diese Disziplin, aber auf Profi-Ebene sind sie nicht zugelassen. Umgekehrte Diskriminierung ;-) Kurz gesagt, es geht darum, in einem Kleeblattmuster so schnell wie moeglich um drei Tonnen zu reiten, ohne dabei eine umzustossen.

Today the second part of our little video series on rodeos: barrel racing. Men ride barrels, too but they are not allowed to compete in professional rodeos. Discrimination the other way round ;-) In a nut shell: You have to ride the clover leaf pattern as fast as possible without tipping any of the barrels.

Am Samstag waren Nick und ich uebrigens shoppen und danach im Kino. Ich vermisse Grossstaedte wirklich nicht, aber die Auswahl an Lebensmitteln und an guten Restaurants wie in Denver fehlt mir doch. Hier in Nord-Wyoming gibt es nirgendwo eine Baeckerei, man hat Glueck, wenn ein Laden drei Sorten Kaese anbietet, und Fisch ... Fehlanzeige, wenn man nicht selbst angeln geht. Wir haben uns uebrigens "The King's Speech" angesehen - ein toller Film!

On Saturday Nick and I went shopping and to the movies. I don't miss big cities but I do miss the wide selection of food and good restaurants like in Denver. Here in Northern Wyoming there are no bakeries, you are lucky if a store has three kinds of cheese and fish ... not really. Better catch it yourself. By the way: We watched "The king's speech" - really great!

Heute kam Les zur Ranch, der Fotograf, der den Cowboy-Fotoworkshop im Februar leiten wird. Einige Cowboys und Cowgirls aus der Umgebung haben sich als Models vorgestellt. Es geht nicht um Schoenheit, obwohl sie alle gut aussehen, sondern um Authenzitaet und Koennen. Es wird nicht einfach werden, in diesem tiefen Schnee schnell zu reiten und eine Herde von Pferden zu treiben, aber wir freuen uns schon. Ich werde im Februar natuerlich minutioes berichten.

Today Les came by, the photographer who is teaching the cowboy photo workshop in February. Some cowboys and cowgirls from the area came to apply for being a model. It's not about beauty even though these guys and gals look great but about authentizity and skills. It won't be easy to ride in the deep snow and to move a bunch of horses but we are looking forward to it. I will tell all in February.
