Was fuer ein schoener Tag: Das Wetter war herrlich, die Leute nett und die Schafe kooperativ. Wir halfen unserem Nachbarn Will und seinen Eltern JW und Thea dabei, ihre Jungschafe auf Schwangerschaft zu testen. Nick, Rick und ich waren dafuer verantwortlich, die Schafe am Laufen zu halten. Will sperrte dann jedes einzelne von mehreren Hundert Schafen in den Chute (s.o.), wo Tierarzt Eric es mit Ultraschall auf Schwangerschaft testete. Waehrend JW wollblinden Schafen die Wolle aus dem Gesicht scherte und Will Schafe mit Zwillingen und nicht schwangere Schafe mit Farbspray markierte, hielt Thea die Zahlen fest.

What a beautiful day: The weather was gorgeous, the people nice and the sheep cooperative. We helped our neighbor Will and his parents JW and Thea to preg check their yearling ewes. Nick, Rick and I were responsible to keep the sheep coming. Will put every one of several hundreds into the chute (s. above) where vet Eric ultrasounded them for pregnancy. While JW cut the wool off those sheep's faces who were wool blind and Will marked ewes with twins and open ewes with color spray, Thea kept track of the numbers.

Am fruehen Nachmittag gab es Essen, wobei Heike (die kurz vorbeischaute) und ich es eher auf die leckeren Cookies abgesehen hatten, die Wills Frau gebacken hatte. In ca. sechs Wochen steht das Scheren an. Was mich daran erinnert, dass wir bald auch einen Scherer fuer unsere kleine Herde bestellen muessen.

There was lunch in the early afternoon even though Heike (who visited for a while) and I focussed more on the delicious cookies which Will's wife had baked. In about six week they are going to shear. Which reminds me that we still have to call a shearer to take care of our own little herd soon.

Rot auf der Nase heisst Zwillinge, blau heisst nicht schwanger. Alle anderen tragen ein Lamm./
Red on the nose means twins, blue means open. All others carry one lamb.
