Nick will diese Woche das allmonatliche Hufetrimmen beenden - 32 Pferde und ein Esel sind eine ganze Menge Tiere. Naja, Brandy trimmt ihre beiden Pferde (Viento und Bo) und ich meine vier (Doc, Stella, Vegas und Jazz), aber da bleiben immer noch genuegend uebrig. Unten seht Ihr Nick mit Chocolate. Rena wartet schon ganz ungeduldig, denn jedes Pferd, das getrimmt wird, bekommt eine Portion Futter ... da hebt Rena gern die Fuesse fuer eine Pedikuere.

Nick wants to finish the monthly hoof trimming marathon - 32 horse and one donkey are a lot of animals. Well, Brandy trims her two (Viento and Bo) and I my four (Doc, Stella, Vegas and Jazz) but there are still enough left. Below you see Nick with Chocolate. Rena is waiting impatiently because every horse which gets trimmed also gets a ration of feed ... Rena is very happy to lift her feet for a pedicure.

Hitze / Heat

Heute sind mal wieder alle in Sued-Dakota bei Brandon. Ihm sind einige Rinder abhanden gekommen, die gesucht werden muessen. Nick und ich halten die Stellung auf der Ranch. Es ist heiss ...

Today everyone is in South Dakota again helping Brandon. He lost some cattle that have to be found again. Nick and I are keeping the ranch going. It is hot ...

Gestern sind einige unserer Rinder auf Nachbars Koppel gewesen. Andy (s. oben auf Patch), Kathleen (auf Juno) und ich (auf meiner Jazz) haben sie zurueckgeholt ... waehrend des Treibens habe ich natuerlich vergessen, ein Foto zu machen. Brandy und Emmett (auf Viento und Jet) waren auch unterwegs. Und das andere Foto (insbesondere wenn man zur Vergroesserung drauf klickt) zeigt, dass auch Heuballen romantisch aussehen koennen ;-)

Yesterday some of our cattle was on the neighbor's pasture. Andy (s. above on Patch), Kathleen (on Juno) and I (on my Jazz) brought them back ... while moving them I forgot to take pictures, of course. Brandy and Emmett (on Viento and Jet) were on the go, too. And the other photo (especially if you click to enlarge it) shows that even hay bales can be romantic ;-)

Muss jetzt das Abendessen kochen.

Sechs Stunden Parelli am Tag/ Six hours of Parelli a day

Sechs Stunden Reiten am Tag ... hoert sich nicht nach viel an, aber es handelt sich ja nicht um einen Ausritt, sondern intensives Arbeiten. Und das in hohen Temperaturen. Wir haben viel Spass, fallen aber nach dem guten Essen schnell ins Bett. Bin frueh morgens auf, um so viel wie moeglich zu erledigen, bevor es heiss wird ... dann muss ich nur noch aufsteigen. Jazz ist total cool, sie freut sich darauf, Rinder zu cutten. Ohne Rinder wird es ihr schnell langweilig ... sie ist ein Leftbrain Introvert (falls Ihr Euch noch erinnert), waehrend Blue/Viento ein Rightbrain Extrovert ist.

Six hours of riding a day ... that does not sound like much but this is not a trail ride but hard work. And in high temperatures. We have a lot fun but - after a great meal - just fall into bed. I am up early in the morning to get my chores done before it gets hot ... then I just have to mount my horse. Jazz is cool, she is looking forward to cutting cattle. Without bovines she gets bored easily ... she is a leftbrain introvert (in case you remember) while Blue/Viento is a rightbrain extrovert.

Auf gen Westen / Westwards

Freitag morgen kamen die vier Zementtrucks fuer die neue Heuscheune - leider alle direkt hintereinander. Bei der Hitze kamen Nick, Gary, Thomas, Anthony, Jo und Brandy kaum hinterher, die Masse zu bearbeiten, bevor sie fest wurde. Ich hatte Glueck und durfte mit unseren Gaesten reiten, und Andy hatte zu putzen und zu kochen. Dafuer haben dann alle den Nachmittag am See verbracht.

Friday morning four cement trucks arrived for the new hay barn - unfortunately all of them at the same time. In the heat Nick, Gary, Thomas, Anthony, Jo and Brandy could barely follow with the trowel work before the cement hardened. I was lucky and was allowed to go ride with the guests. And Andy had to clean and cook. But in the afternoon everyone took off and spend time at the lake.

Am Samstag sind Brandy und ich mit unseren Pferden Viento (frueher Blue) und Jazz nach Sheridan gefahren, um an einem viertaegigen Parelli-Seminar mit 5-Star Instructor Dave Ellis teilzunehmen. Auf dem Foto unten seht Ihr Brandy auf Viento und eine andere Kursteilnehmerin auf dem Weg zur offenen Arena ... die Ranch, auf der wir wohnen, befindet sich in den wunderschoenen Bighorn Mountains. Unsere Pferde und wir lernen in Riesenschritten ... mehr morgen.

On Saturday Brandy and I drove with our horses Viento (before Blue) and Jazz to Sheridan to participate in a four-day Parelli clinic with 5-star instructor Dave Ellis. On the photo you see Brandy on Viento and another class participant on the way to the open arena ... the ranch we are staying at is in the beautiful Bighorn Mountains. Our horses and we are learning so much ... more tomorrow.
