Nachdem wir endlich unsere Steuererklaerung eingereicht hatten, machten Nick und ich uns auf den Weg nach Montana, um Brandy, Brandon, Emmett und Garrett auf ihrer Ranch in der endlosen Praerie noerdlich von Miles City zu besuchen. Amanda (aus Schweden) war auch noch da. Mittlerweile geniessen Scotch, Patch, KC und Chica dort ihren Lebensabend. Sie werden noch geritten, aber nicht mehr so hart wie bei uns, wo sie oefter und laenger in schwierigem Gelaende arbeiten mussten. 

After finally getting our income tax return done, Nick and I drove to Montana to visit Brandy, Brandon, Emmett and Garrett on their ranch in the endless prairie North of Miles City. Amanda (from Sweden) was still there as well. Meanwhile Scotch, Patch, KC and Chica are enjoying their retirement there. They are still being ridden but not as hard as on our place where they had to work more often and longer in difficult terrain.

Nick und ich haben dann noch einen Tag in Billings angehaengt, wo wir eine Viehausstellung besucht haben. Kaum zu Hause, fragte Nachbar Will an, ob wir ihm bei der Rinderarbeit helfen koennten. Heike hatte Langeweile und schloss sich uns an. Eigentlich hatte ich mit einem Tag auf dem Sofa und einem neuen Buch geliebaeugelt, aber dann hat der Ritt trotz Kaelte, Wind und etwas Regen und Schnee Spass gebracht. Abends haben wir uns in der Lodge aufgewaermt und Anjas Spaetzle gegessen. Eigentlich ein schoener Sonntag!

Nick and I added a day in Billings where we visited The NILE (Northern International Livestock Exposition). Barely home, neighbor Will asked us to help him with cattle work. Heike was bored and joined us. I had thought about a day on the sofa with a new book but then the ride was quite fun despite the cold, wind and some rain and snow. In the evening we warmed up in the lodge and ate Anja's "Spaetzle" (German pasta dish). Actually a nice Sunday!

Ab Morgen soll es wieder waermer werden. Wird auch Zeit. Einen richtigen Herbst haben wir dieses Jahr bisher kaum gehabt.

From tomorrow on it's supposed to get warmer again. High time! This year, we haven't had a real fall, yet.

Hitze / Heat

Heute sind mal wieder alle in Sued-Dakota bei Brandon. Ihm sind einige Rinder abhanden gekommen, die gesucht werden muessen. Nick und ich halten die Stellung auf der Ranch. Es ist heiss ...

Today everyone is in South Dakota again helping Brandon. He lost some cattle that have to be found again. Nick and I are keeping the ranch going. It is hot ...

Gestern sind einige unserer Rinder auf Nachbars Koppel gewesen. Andy (s. oben auf Patch), Kathleen (auf Juno) und ich (auf meiner Jazz) haben sie zurueckgeholt ... waehrend des Treibens habe ich natuerlich vergessen, ein Foto zu machen. Brandy und Emmett (auf Viento und Jet) waren auch unterwegs. Und das andere Foto (insbesondere wenn man zur Vergroesserung drauf klickt) zeigt, dass auch Heuballen romantisch aussehen koennen ;-)

Yesterday some of our cattle was on the neighbor's pasture. Andy (s. above on Patch), Kathleen (on Juno) and I (on my Jazz) brought them back ... while moving them I forgot to take pictures, of course. Brandy and Emmett (on Viento and Jet) were on the go, too. And the other photo (especially if you click to enlarge it) shows that even hay bales can be romantic ;-)

Muss jetzt das Abendessen kochen.

Have to cook supper now.

In eigener Sache / Note from the blogger

Manchmal arbeiten wir sieben Tage die Woche ... aber manchmal geniessen wir auch einfach nur unser schoenes Leben in der Wildnis Wyomings. Hier seht Ihr Nick auf Patch ... mehr zu unserem Ausritt morgen ... denn dann muss ich mal wieder ein bisschen mehr Zeit im Buero verbringen.

Sometimes we work seven days a week ... and sometimes we just enjoy our beautiful life in the wilderness of Wyoming. Here you can see Nick on Patch ... more about today's ride in tomorrow's blog ... because then I will have to spend a little more time in the office again.

Doch noch zu etwas anderem: Manche Blog-Leser haben mich gefragt, warum ich keine Kommentare zulasse. Ich schreibe nicht nur ueber mich, sondern auch ueber meine Familie, Freunde, Nachbarn und Gaeste, deren Privatsphaere ich schuetzen moechte. Aus diesem Grund gehe ich mit meinem Blog auch nicht immer ins Detail. Hin ... und her / Back ... and forth

Heute gab es wieder viel Viechszeugs zu fuettern und zu sortieren ... unter anderem Pferde. Die grosse Herde grast einige Kilometer von der Ranch entfernt. Kaltblut Leftie und Pony Nellie (Foto oben) sollten raus, da Brandy mit ihrer Familie Brandons Eltern in Sued-Wyoming besucht und die beiden Roesser fuer einige Tage nicht benoetigt.

Today we had to feed and sort lots af critters ... also horses. The big herd grazes a few miles from the ranch. Drafthorse Leftie and pony Nellie needed to go out because Brandy and her family are going to visit Brandon's parents in Southern Wyoming and they won't need the two for a few days.

Patch (unten links) und Jet (unten rechts) sollten rein: Patch tendiert wie Romes dazu, im Winter zu duenn zu werden, und Jet ist ein bombensicheres Pferd, wenn Tina mal mit Ronja reiten will (oder Brandy mit Emmett). Gauge ist natuerlich immer dabei.

Patch (below left) and Jet (below right) needed to go in: Patch like Romes tends to lose weight in winter and Jet is a super safe horse when Tina wants to ride with Ronja (or Brandy with Emmett). Gauge of course is always there.

Tina wollte endlich mal wieder reiten. Und da ja irgendjemand auf die Kinder aufpassen muss, haben Nick und ich uns mit Emmett und Ronja ins offene Gelaendefahrzeug gesetzt und sind mitgefahren. Das nennt man Pony-Express ;-)

Tina wanted to ride again. And since someone had to take care of the kids, Nick and I took Emmett and Ronja and followed Tina in our open ATV. You can call that pony express ;-)
