Da wir erst am Donnerstag aus Montana zurueckgekehrt sind, hatte ich keine Lust, dieses Jahr wieder eine Silvesterparty fuer die Nachbarschaft zu organisieren. Nick und ich sind stattdessen nach Gillette zu einem Rodeo gefahren, das erstaunlich gut war - nur bockende Pferde und Bullen und ziemlich gute Cowboys. Danach spielten Chancey Williams und die Younger Brothers zum Westerntanz auf. Ausserhalb des Wilden Westens ist es ein seltener Anblick, aber hier tanzen Paare von 18 bis 80 zusammen - schnell und wild oder langsam und gesetzt, jeder in seiner Fasson.

Since we did not return from Montana till Thursday, I did not feel like organizing a New Year's Eve party for the neighborhood again this year. Instead Nick and I drove to a rodeo in Gillette which was amazingly good - just bucking horses and bulls and pretty good cowboys. Afterwards Chancey Williams and the Younger Brothers played their Western dance music. Other places than here it has become rare but here in the Wild West it is common for couples from 18 to 80 to dance together - fast and wild or slow and safe, everyone as they can and want to.

Am ersten Tag des neuen Jahres haben wir uns von JoAnn fuettern lassen und waren wir im Schneetreiben im Polaris auf der Ranch unterwegs. Als wir voellig verfroren zurueckkamen, ging's gleich in den Whirlpool ... waehrend der Schnee um uns herumwehte. Was fuer ein hartes Leben ;-)

On the first day of the new year we got ourselves fed by JoAnn and then toured the ranch in the Polaris in falling snow. When we came home, we were very cold and jumped into the hot tub ... while the snow fell around us. What a hard life ;-)

Uebrigens: Wir haben nun auch Savannah verkauft, da wir sie immer beschlagen mussten. Sie wird auch ein Kinderpferd werden und ein Luxusleben fuehren. Das macht die Trennung leichter.

By the way: We have also sold Savannah since we always had to shoe her. She will be a kid's horse as well and will have a good life. This makes separating from her easier.

Maitage / May days

Kraftpaket / All muscle: Captain

Antje ist angekommen ... und einen Flug danach auch ihr Koffer. Ausschlafen konnte sie allerdings nicht, da ein Nachbar heute Hilfe beim Schafscheren brauchte. Aber Schwaben sind ja hart im Nehmen ;-)

Antje arrived ... and one flight later her suitcase did, too. She could not sleep in, though because a neighbor needed help with shearing sheep today. But "Schwaben" (from the area around Stuttgart in Southern Germany) are tough ;-)

Oben seht Ihr unseren Neuen: Captain. Tav ist ganz begeistert von ihm. Der Schimmel ist willig und sensibel. Als wir gestern Antje abholten, haben wir auch noch Chuck eingeladen, einen grossen Fuchspaint, aber von dem berichte ich dann im naechsten Blog.

Above you see our new horse: Captain. Tav loves him because the grey is willing and sensitive. When we picked up Antje yesterday, we also loaded Chuck into our trailer, a big sorrel paint. More about him in the next blog.

Rita und ich haben versucht, Kueken Humphry wieder seiner Familie zuzufuehren, leider vergeblich. Humphry moechte gern, aber die alten Gaense erkennen seine Stimme nicht.

Rita and I tried to reunite Humphry with his family but unfortunately it did not work. Humphry was all excited but the old geese didn't regognize his voice.

Das Wetter ist wieder gut, und wir naehern in mit grossen Schritten der Reitsaison.

The weather is nice again and we are getting closer to riding season every day.
