Matt und/and Bailey in Aktion/in action

Wenn wir nicht die eigenen Rinder treiben, dann die von Nachbarn ... trotzdem haben wir einen Nachmittag gefunden, an dem wir - nach einer Schiessstunde mit Pistole und Gewehr - Team Penning gemacht haben. Anbei Angies Action-Fotos.

When we don't move our own cattle, we help neighbors move theirs ... nevertheless we found one afternoon on which we - after some shooting lessons with pistol and rifle - did some team penning. Attached Angie's action shots.

Nach all den diversen Kueken (ja, Humphry geht es gut), Bueffelkind (leider momentan fluechtig) und Katzenbabies (immer noch Uneinigkeit ueber die Namen) werden jetzt die ersten Laemmer geboren. Fotos folgen. Morgen gehts aber erstmal zum Mount Rushmore.

After various chicks (yes, Humphry is well), a buffalo baby (unfortunately gone right now) and kittens (we still haven't agreed on names) the first lambs are born these days. Photos soon. Tomorrow we'll go and visit Mount Rushmore.

Liebe auf den zweiten Blick / Love at second sight

Konnte mich gar nicht zwischen den beiden Fotos entscheiden - Pferd und Kalb (oben) oder Katerchen (unten) ... aber Pferd und Kalb sehen mehr Western aus. Dafuer sind Tom und Jerry (vorlaeufige Namen) suesser ... Rita hat sofort die Mutterschaft uebernommen. Unsere Katzen Misty und Squash sind nicht begeistert, aber wir brauchen mehr Maeusefaenger. Could not decide between the two photos - horse and calf (above) or new tom kittens (below) ... but horse and calf are more Western. Tom and Jerry (preliminary names) are cuter, though ... Rita immediately took over the mother role. Our cats Misty and Squash are not delighted but we need more mousers. More pics will follow.

Apropos Fotos: Da ich in den vergangenen Tagen viel unterwegs war, hat Angie mir netterweise ihren tollen Fotos zur Verfuegung gestellt. Gestern wollte ich dann enlich mal wieder reiten ... und Stella hat schon ihre neuen Eisen verloren ... bin etwas frustriert.

Photos: Since I was gone a lot the last few days, Angie let me have her great photos. Yesterday I wanted to ride again ... but Stella had already lost her new shoes again ... I am somewhat frustrated.

Matt, Angie und Fritz sind noch da, neu hinzugekommen sind Samantha, Cody und Kim aus Wisconsin, Denise aus der Schweiz und - nach einer laengeren Irrfahrt - Claudia und Anke aus Deutschland. Wir haben viel Rinderarbeit und waren auch wieder auf einem Branding. Fotos folgen.

Am Samstag gleich ein Branding, am Sonntag Rinderarbeit bei dem einen Nachbarn, und am Montag steht ebenfalls Rinderarbeit bei einem anderen Nachbarn an. Fotos folgen. Heute erstmal unsere neuen Reitgaeste: Yvonne und Ghita aus den Niederlanden, Angie, Mat und Fritz aus Oesterreich und Sandra aus Deutschland. Sandra war 2011 drei Monate auf der Ranch, kann dieses Jahr aber leider nur eine Woche bleiben. Angie und Mat sind auch Wiederholungstaeter aus dem vergangenen Jahr. Und wenn sich Mat und Fritz auf Deutsch (?) unterhalten, versteht eh keiner ein Wort.

On Saturday a branding, on Sunday cattle work with one neighbor and on Monday cattle work with another neighbor. Photos will follow. Today our new riding guests: Yvonne and Ghita from the Netherlands, Angie, Mat and Fritz from Austria, and Sandra from Germany. Sandra spent three months on the ranch in 2011 but this year she can only come for one week. Angie and Mat are repeaters as well. And when Mat and Fritz talk in German (?), no one understands a word.

Leider befinden wir uns bereits mitten in einer Duerre. Es ist warm bis heiss und regnet nur alle paar Wochen einmal. Wir haben noch Heu aus dem vergangenen Jahr und werden es nicht weiter verkaufen, damit wir genug fuer unsere Pferde haben, falls es wirklich nicht mehr regnen sollte.

Unfortunately we are already right in the middle of a drought. It is warm and even hot and only rains every two weeks or so. We still have hay from last year and won't sell it anymore so we have enough for our horses in case it stops raining altogether.

Gaensekueken Humphry ist einige Tage lang krank gewesen ... Rita und ich waren sehr besorgt, aber seit gestern frisst er wieder. Die Huehnerkueken sind auch rapide gewachsen. In der naechsten Woche wollen wir Katzenbabies vom Nachbarn abholen. Und wo wir gerade von Babies sprechen: Bald muessen wir auch Fohlen Chester kastrieren lassen.

Gosling Humphry had been ill for a few days ... Rita and I were very concerned but he has started to eat again. The chicks are growing rapidly. And next week we want to pick up new kittens from a neighbor. As we are talking babies: Colt Chester needs to be castrated soon.
