Einen Tisch zu bauen ist nicht so einfach, wie man denkt ... das ist Millimeterarbeit. Die "Maedchen" sind fleissig am Lackieren. Ihr werdet das Ergebnis in einem der naechsten Blogs sehen ... falls wir die Tische in die Lodge bekommen ...

To build a table is not as easy as you may think ... it's about the tiniest part of an inch. The "girls" are still verithaning the wood. You'll see the result in one of the next blogs ... if we manage to get the tables into the lodge.

Am Sonntag waren wir alle auf einer Pferdeauktion (nur Schauen ;-) ausser Nick, der mit seiner Mutter JoAnn Brandy, Brandon und Emmett auf ihrer Ranch in Sued-Dakota besucht hat. Tav hat seine Haare schneiden lassen und sich einen neuen Hut gekauft ... er ist kaum wiederzuerkennen ... jetzt muss nur noch der Bart ab.

On Sunday we all went to a horse sale (just looking ;-) other than Nick who visited Brandy, Brandon and Emmett in South Dakota, together with his mom, JoAnn. Tav got his hair cut and bought a new hat ... we barely recognized him ... now he just needs to shave his beard.

Ich haette gern ein Foto von Dori gemacht, als sie halb in einer der fuenf Gefriertruhen hing, die geputzt werden mussten, aber dann wuerde ich wohl nicht mehr in den Genuss ihrer Kochkuenste kommen.

I would have liked to take a picture of Dori halfway in and halfway out of one of the five freezers which needed to be cleaned but I would have risked not be able to enjoy her food anymore.

Am Montag halfen Tav, Barbara und Silke einem Nachbarn beim Schafescheren ... mal wieder. Tav repariert weiterhin Zaeune, und Barbara hilft Nick beim Bau der Arena.

On Monday Tav, Barbara and Silke helped the neighbors (again) to shear sheep. Tav is still fixing fences and Barbara is helping Nick with the new arena.

Gestern durften die Pferde das erste Mal fuer ein paar Stunden auf Gras, die Aufregung war gross. Auch wenn es mittlerweile kaum noch schneit, ist es immer noch kalt und ungemuetlich. Das Gras spriesst bisher nur spearlich. Auch hier hat sich das Wetter veraendert ... sei es "global warming" oder nicht.

Yesterday the horses were allowed on grass the first time (for a few hours). They were pretty excited. It does not snow much anymore but it's still cold. The grass is just coming out. The weather has changed here as well ... call it global warming or not.

Under geliebter Blade hat ein neues Heim gefunden. Blade ist seit August lahm, der Tierarzt hat Arthrose diagnostiziert. Blade geht jetzt zu einer Familie, deren Toechter ihn ab und ab mal fuer kurze Zeit reiten werden. Mehr ist nicht moeglich, obwohl er erst 9 Jahre alt ist.

Our beloved Blade has found a new home. He has been lame since August and the vet diagnosed arthritis. Blade will now move to a family whose daughters will ride him once in a while for a short time. More is not possible even though he is just 9 years old.

Bailey hat sich von seiner Sehnenverletzung wieder erholt. Romes wird diesen Sommer Kadoka in Sued-Dakota Gesellschaft leisten (bei Brandy und Brandon). Danach sehen wir weiter. Er ist eben schon sehr alt. Bo soll als Kinderpferd verkauft werden ... er ist zwar offiziell erst 17, aber wir glauben, dass das wohl nicht ganz stimmen kann. Scotch hat sich gepruegelt und ist noch lahm, hoffentlich aber nur voruebergehend. Alle anderen sind fit, so z.B. Rena, Tucker und Jazz (siehe oben und unten).

Bailey recovered from his tendon injury. Romes will spend the summer with Kadoka in South Dakota (with Brandy and Brandon). Then we'll see ... he is already very old. Bo will be sold as a kids' horse ... he is only 17, officially, but we assume he must be older. Scotch got into a fight and kicked and is lame now but hopefully just temporarily. All others are fit such as Rena, Tucker, and Jazz (s. above and below).

Diverses / This and that

Blade geht es immer besser, aber da wir nicht wissen, warum er krank wurde und warum er wider Erwarten wieder gesund wurde, wissen wir auch nicht, ob es nicht jederzeit wieder passieren kann. Naja ... Romes und Bo haben wir separiert. Die beiden alten Herren werden extra gefuettert, da sie beim Fuettern nicht mit den anderen Pferden mithalten koennen.

Blade is doing a lot better but since we don't know why he got sick and why he recovered against all odds, we still don't know if it cannot happen again any time. We have separated Romes and Bo ... the old guys cannot eat as fast as the rest of the horses.

Wir sind in der heissen Phase unserer Wranglersuche und haben schon einige vielversprechende Kandidaten. Eine Koechin, Dori, haben wir auch gefunden. Und ein paar verrueckte Deutsche - Barbara, Linda, Sandra - die hier schuften wollen. Ich freue mich schon.

We are looking for a wrangler again and are talking to some interesting candidates. We have already found a cook for next season, Dori. And some crazy Germans - Barbara, Linda, Sandra - who want to "slave" here. I am looking forward to all of them.

Der Cowboy-Fotoworkshop (10.-15. Februar) rueckt auch naeher. Darueber habe ich schon im Fruehjahr 2010 berichtet, werde aber zeitnaher noch mal mehr erzaehlen. Wir muessen noch einen Generator kaufen, denn ein Stromausfall waere nicht gut, wenn die Teilnehmer tagsueber am Laptop sitzen und ihre Fotos bearbeiten wollen.

The cowboy photo workshop will start soon (February 10-15). I already told you about it last spring but will tell more soon. We have to buy a generator because we cannot afford a power outage when the participants are editing their photos on laptops during the day.

Ich arbeite mich in ein neues Buchhaltungsprogramm ein ... habe ich das schon erwaehnt? Meine Laune ist nicht allzu gut, ich bin schlicht und einfach nicht fuer Buchhaltung geschaffen. So, genug small talk. Der Mann kommt bald heim, und ich muss an den Herd ;-)

I am learning a new accounting program ... did I already mention that? My mood is not the best, I was not made to do accounting. Okay, enough small talk. The man will return home soon and I have to rush into the kitchen ;-)

Zwei fuer alle Faelle / Two without fail

Neben Bo koennte eine Bombe hochgehen ... auf ihn ist immer Verlass. Jauchzende Kinder koennen ihn schon gar nicht aus der Ruhe bringen. Solche Pferde sind Gold wert. Wer ist sonst noch auf dem Bild? Tina mit Gauge, auf dem Pferd Emmett und Ronja und ganz links ich. Kommentare ueber meine Muetze koennt Ihr Euch uebrigens sparen. Unten noch ein Pfundspferd: Grover, der mal eben bei Emmett nachfragt, ob nicht noch ein Leckerlie da ist. Grover hat zwar durchaus seine eigene Meinung, laesst sich aber fuer Streicheleinheiten zu allem ueberreden. Nur erschrecken tut er sich nie ... das kostet zu viel Energie.

You can always depend on Bo ... even if a bomb went off next to him. Giggling kids don't affect him at all. Horses like that are worth their weight in gold. Who else is on the picture? Tina with Gauge, Emmett and Ronja on the horse and left I. And yes, you can keep your comments about my hat to yourselves. Below another wonderhorse: Grover who is just asking Emmett if the cookies are really all gone. Grover does have his own opinion but one can persuade him to do anything for some petting and scratching. The only thing he does not do is spook ... that costs too much energy.
