An Wyoming gewoehnt man sich nie / You never get used to Wyoming

Anja, Jazz und ganz viele Schafe / Anja, Jazz and lots of sheep

Many people think that after ten years in Wyoming, I got used to life here and don't see the beauty of this place anymore but that's not true. There is no day during which I don't enjoy the wide open ever changing sky, the deafening silence of a hot summer day or the howling of a blizzard in winter, the scent of horses and fresh cut grass and the damp soil after a thunderstorm, the comforting feeling of always being able to pet some animals and ride through an empty landscape without having to pay attention to streets and vehicles. I have no idea anymore how I could have stayed in a small apartment in a big city without pets and in an office job for so many years. No, in this sense I will never "get used" to Wyoming.

Vielen Dank an alle Gaeste fuer die tollen Fotos!

Thanks a lot to all guests for the photos!

Haben Schafe Schwaenze? / Do sheep have tails?

Auf dem Heimweg vom Rindertreiben / On the way home from working cattle

This year I have a hard time catching up with my blogs ... the weeks just fly by. Sabine from Austria (who came to the ranch in 2005 for the first time) and Rachel and Zoe from England have already left again. For one week Petra, Oliver and Dominik from my home state of Schleswig-Hostein were here, also Martina, Petra and Kathrin from Bavaria. We visited the rodeo in Sheridan. Its Indian Relay Races are unique. Everyone jumps up from their seats and cheers on the riders. Hopefully I will be able to show some pics in this blog soon ;-)

At the moment Jan and Anke from Brandenburg are on the ranch (they live and work in Michigan right now), also Debi and Gitta as well as Louise and Peter from Switzerland, John from North Carolina and Veronika from Sweden. After the cattle brandings we now help with dockings - lambs are marked with paint, vaccinated and castrated. And their tails are banded. Our neighbors always laugh about our little sheep herd since we let them keep their tails - an uncommon sight, not just here but everywhere in the world.

We are busy haying. Nick and Lisa do most of it but I help out once in a while. Nice to have a hay crop again again! And enough grass for all the horses and cattle!

Steile Haenge und weite Praerie / Steep slopes and wide prairie

Tav und Captain in Aktion / Tav and Captain in action

My brain is drying out, I cannot think in this heat anymore. It's supposed to be cooler tomorrow. ]Unfortunately, we cannot complain about too much rain - as in Europe. We are quite busy. One day we helped a neighbor where the slopes were so steep that even Nick got off the horse. Another day we moved cattle in the open prairie of South Dakota.

Brandings, shooting, team penning, roping ... and lots of animal babies everywhere. Nick's daughters and grandkids have left, also Kathrin, Oli, Harri, Claudia, Manuel and Urs. Toby, Anna and Silke are still here. Don't know what to do when you guys leave. New: Janice and Peter from GB, Robbie (long time ago) and Tanja from Germany. And of course own Tine and Sabine.

Hi Buddy, bye Tequila!

Frank und Pearl bei der Arbeit / Frank and Pearl at work

Buddy, the fawn, is doing well but Tequila is not. After several weeks we finally found our new buffalo: dead. Unfortunately, we don't know why she died.

Brandy, Nikki, Emmett, Bridger, Garrett and Lark are still visiting. After Patch, Brandy will also take Scotch to South Dakota. Patch is getting old and Scotch has never recovered from his injury and is still lame - but he can still carry little kids around.

Due to the drought we have to seriously consider which horses to keep and which not. Unfortunately, I will have to find a new home for my two, Stella and Doc, because they are not rideable anymore. And Gordo will have to go as well.

We are pretty busy as usual but in between we regularly cool off in the lake.
