Pure Action: Anthony und Chris versuchen, einen Ochsen aus dem Schlamm zu ziehen ... was ihnen spaeter auch gelang.

Bin auf dem Weg zum Flughafen ... Vanessa und Yvonne fliegen nach Hause. Linda und Sarah werden derweil mit Anthony Rinder treiben.

Am on the way to the airport ... Vanessa and Yvonne are flying home. In the meantime Linda and Sarah will move cattle with Anthony.

Indianersommer / Indian summer

Tja, man kann es nicht mehr uebersehen, der Herbst ist eingekehrt. Leider verfaerbt sich das Laub hier schneller als z.B. an der amerikanischen Ostkueste, da Tage und Naechte schnell kuehler werden. Ausserdem gibt es hier viel mehr Nadelbaeume als Laubbaeume, letztere meist in Flussniederungen. Trotzdem ist der Herbst neben Fruehling meine Lieblingsjahreszeit ... er ist weder zu heiss noch zu kalt ;-)

Yes, it's obvious, fall has arrived. Unfortunately, the leaves will change color faster than i.e. on the American East coast because the days and nights turn colder faster. In addition to that we have far more conifers than broadleaves, latter ones mostly in creek bottoms. Nevertheless, fall is next to spring my favorite season ... it's neither too warm nor too cold ;-)

Dreilaendereck / Tri-State area

Am Freitag kehrte kurz der Winter ein, aber am Samstag klarte es dann langsam wieder auf, auch wenn es noch sehr kuehl war. "Oesis" Andrea (Foto, auf Pink) und Roman (auf Tucker) genossen einen fuenfstuendigen Ausritt mit Brandy und Anke, waehrend ich mit Nick, Vanessa und Yvonne in der Stadt war, um Chris zum Flughafen zu bringen und Linda und Sarah (aus der Schweiz) abzuholen.

On Friday winter showed its face but on Saturday it cleared up again while still being chilly. Austrians Andrea (photo, on Pink) and Roman (on Tucker) enjoyed a five-hour trail ride with Brandy and Anke while Nick, Vanessa, Yvonne and I were in town to drop Chris off at the airport and pick up Linda and Sarah (from Switzerland).

Zwei deutsche, zwei oesterreichische und zwei schweizerische Gaeste ... wie im Dreilaendereck. So wird uebrigens auch unsere Gegend an der Grenze von Wyoming, Montana und Sued-Dakota genannt.

Two German guests, two Austrians, and two Swiss ... like in the tri-state area in Europe. But our area here (Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota) is called the same.

Am Sonntag brachen wir bei Nebel auf, hatten dann aber bald die beste Sicht, s. die naechsten beiden Fotos (Yvonne auf Pep, Sarah auf Buster, Linda auf Jet sowie Andrea, Yvonne und Vanessa auf einem Felsen). Und ganz unten Vanessa auf ihrem geliebten Tramp, den man bequem ohne Sattel reiten kann.

On Sunday we took off in fog but soon had the best view, s. photos (Yvonne on Pep, Sarah on Buster, Linda on Jet as well as Andrea, Yvonne and Vanessa on a rock). And below Vanessa on her beloved Tramp who one can ride very comfortably without a saddle.

Die Lodge wird groesser / The lodge grows

Keine Sorge, wir werden auch in Zukunft maximal acht Gaeste aufnehmen, aber wir wollen keinen Einzelzimmeraufschlag erheben und auch nicht, dass Einzelreisende ein Zimmer teilen muessen. Deshalb bauen wir jetzt ein zusaetzliches Zimmer und zwei Baeder an die Lodge an. Fuer das Zimmer nutzen wir bereits vorhandenen Raum und ergaenzen nur ein paar Meter. Am Ende wird es also insgesamt fuenf Zimmer geben, die alle ein eigenes Bad haben.

Don't worry, we will not take more than eight guests at a time in the future but we want to avoid charging extra for single rooms and having to put single travellers together into one room. That's why we are adding another room and two bath rooms to the lodge. For the room we'll use part of the lodge and add a bit. In the end there will be five rooms, each with its own bath room.

Nick hat gerade das Fundament gelegt (s. photo). Gary ist dabei, das Dach der Lodge neu zu decken. Es war im vergangenen Jahr von einem Hagelsturm beschaedigt worden. Unten seht Ihr Nick auf KC im Sonnenuntergang. Wir sind gestern abend einfach mal ausgeritten und haben Zaeune gescheckt.

Nick just finished the foundation (s. photo). Gary is shingling the roof of the lodge which was damaged last year in a hail storm. Below you see Nick riding KC at sunset. We went on a ride last night to check fences.

Petra, Britta und Birgit sind abgereist. Dafuer sind Andrea und Roman aus Wien angereist. Sie kamen spaet, da sie noch einen Unfall mit ihrem Mietwagen hatten. Zum Glueck gab es nur Blechschaden.

Petra, Britta and Birgit left. Andrea and Roman from Vienna arrived, they were late because they got into an accident with their rental car. Luckily no one got hurt.

Ein Cowboy und seine Girls / A cowboy and his girls

Heute morgen war uns einfach nach einem schoenen Ritt zumute... und nicht nach Zaeune bauen. Waehrend Anthony und Jo genau das taten, Anke und Brandy kochten und putzten, Gary das Lodgedach erneuerte und Nick Zement im Anbau goss, machten wir uns auf. Baltimore-Cowboy Chris (auf Buster) und seine Girls (Petra auf Classy, Britta auf Rena, Yvonne auf Tucker, Birgit auf Jet und Vanessa auf Tramp) seht Ihr auf dem Foto oben und den Bildern unten. Auf dem zweiten Foto denkt sich Tucker (ueber seine Reiterin Yvonne mit Kamera): "Touristin!"

This morning we just wanted to go on a ride ... and not build fences. While Anthony and Jo were doing exactly that, Anke and Brandy cleaned and cooked, Gary shingled the lodge roof, Nick poured cement in the lodge addition, and we took off on horseback. You see (on the photo above and the following ones) Baltimore cowboy Chris and his girls (Petra on Classy, Britta on Rena, Yvonne on Tucker, Birgit on Jet and Vanessa on Tramp). On the second photo Tucker seems to be thinking (about his rider Yvonne with camera): "Tourist!"

Goodbye, Cody!

Am Mittwoch reisten Georgie and Dori ab, dafuer kamen Vanessa und Yvonne. Vanessa war schon 2004 und 2005 hier, hat aber dieses Mal statt Cousine Melanie Freundin Yvonne im Schlepptau. Am Freitag machten sich dann auch Peter und Brigitte auf den Weg. Dafuer kam am Samstag Chris aus Baltimore an, der sich nun schon das dritte Mal ins Ranchabenteuer stuerzt.

On Wednesday Georgie and Dori left while Vanessa and Yvonne arrived. Vanessa had been here in 2004 and 2005 but this time instead of bringing her cousin Melanie she dragged her friend Yvonne out into the middle of nowhere. On Friday Peter and Brigitte took off as well. On Saturday Chris came in from Baltimore. It's his third time as a cowboy in New Haven.

Am Samstag waren wir alle shoppen und sightseeing, am Sonntag ging es dann zur Pferdeauktion (s. Foto). Wir haben - schweren Herzens - Cody verkauft. Der kleine schwarz-weisse Paint kam einfach nicht mit den wechselnden Reitern zurecht, die es nun mal auf einer Gaesteranch gibt. Wir selbst kaufen nicht mehr auf Auktionen ... man wird zu oft hinters Licht gefuehrt.

Saturday we all went shopping and sightseeing, and on Sunday we drove to a horse sale (s. photo). We sold - sadly - Cody. The little black and white paint could simply not deal with the ever changing riders on a guest ranch. We don't buy horses at auctions anymore ... too many people lie about the horses' health or behavioural problems.

Heute waren alle auf einem langen Viehtrieb. Und auch waehrend Nick und ich in New Mexico waren, gab es viel zu tun auf New Haven. Fotos folgen, sobald ich sie von Petra, Birgit und Britta "geklaut" habe.

Today everyone went on a long cattle drive. And while Nick and I were in new Mexico, there was lots of work to do on New Haven. Photos will follow once I have "stolen" some from Petra, Birgit and Britta.

Der Herbst hat begonnen, das Licht veraendert sich, und die Luft ist klarer denn je. Tagsueber ist es noch sehr warm, aber nicht mehr heiss, und nachts sinken die Temperaturen schnell. Hoffentlich bleibt uns noch etwas Zeit bis zum ersten Schnee.

Fall is beginning, the light has changed and the air is clearer than ever. During the day it is still warm but not hot and the nights are cooling off quite a bit. Hopefully there is still some time till the first snow.
