Wace hat es eilig / Wace in a hurry

Waehrend hier - wahrscheinlich nur voruebergehend - mit 20 Grad der Fruehling begonnen hat und Nick und ich in Hemden herumlaufen, zeige ich Euch heute und in den naechsten Tagen die ersten Fotos, die Les waehrend des Fotoworkshops gemacht und nun geschickt hat. Mehr unten.

While here - probably just temporarily - spring has begun with temps in the 60ies and Nick and I only wearing shirts, today and in the next few days I will show you the first pics which Les took during the photo workshop and has sent now. More below.

Samstagabend wollten Heike und ich in die Ponderosa Bar in Hulett gehen. Nach einem guten Essen im Cafe gingen wir gegen 20 Uhr in die Bar ... es waren drei Leute dort, die bald gingen. Als der Bartender gegen 21 Uhr die Stuehle hoch stellte und die Lichter ausschaltete, fuehlten wir uns nicht mehr willkommen ... und das an einem Samstagabend! Einer der Hauptgruende: Am Samstag darf in der Bar nicht geraucht werden ... und die Gaeste bleiben aus.

Saturday evening Heike and I wanted to go to the Ponderosa Bar in Hulett. After a good meal in the cafe we entered the bar at about 8 pm. There were three people who left soon. When the bar tender put up the chairs and turned off the lights at about 9 pm, we did not feel welcome anymore ... and this on a Saturday evening! One of the main reasons: On Saturday people aren't allowed to smoke in the bar ... so they don't come at all.

Vor unserem Urlaub hat Nick schon 20 Pferde getrimmt ... jetzt kommen die naechsten 20 dran. Bin ich froh, dass ich das nicht machen muss !!! Die meisten Pferde benehmen sich gut, obwohl Ausnahmen die Regel bestaetigen. Ich nenne jetzt keine Namen ;-)

Before our vacation Nick had already trimmed 20 horses ... now he is starting on the next 20. Am I glad that I don't have to do it !!! Most of the horses behave well even though there are exceptions. I am not going to mention any names ;-)

Waehrend ich versuche, der Buero- und Hausarbeit wieder Herr (Frau) zu werden, laedt Nick taeglich Heu, das nach Colorado und Texas geht. Tav will Mitte Maerz zurueckkommen. Arbeit gibt es genug. Und im April reisen dann auch die ersten Saisonkraefte an: rechtzeitig zur Truthahnjagdsaison.

While I am trying to catch up with office and house work, Nick is loading hay every day which goes to Colorado and Texas. Tav will come back mid March. There is plenty of work. And in April the first seasonal help will arrive: just in time for turkey hunting season.

Wir haben unsere Jaherlingsrinder, die noch im Feedlot sind, bereits vertraglich verkauft und einen sehr guten Preis erzielt. Natuerlich bleiben die Rinder den ganzen Sommer auf der Ranch und sollen sich fett fressen, bevor sie wieder verladen werden.

We have already contracted our yearling cattle which are still in the feedlot. We got a very good price. The cattle will stay on the ranch all summer to get fat before they are shipped again.

Wen es interessiert: Wir sind bis 11. Juli ausgebucht ... nur in der Woche vom 2. bis 9. Juni gibt es noch Plaetze, eigentlich eine tolle Zeit, weil dann Brandings stattfinden (allerdings ohne Garantie). Auch der September fuellt sich langsam, aber sicher.

To whom it may concern: We are booked out till July 11 ... there are only a few openings from June 2 to 9 left. An exciting time because of the brandings (no guarantee, though). September is also filling up.

Waehrend wir in Europa waren, haben wir hier den zweiwoechigen Winter mit viel Schnee verpasst. Jetzt ist es schon wieder recht warm und sonnig. Unser Nachbar Randy durfte sich mit der Arbeit im Schnee herumschlagen, dafuer hat Nicks Mutter JoAnn ihn bekocht. Gauge und Penny sind dank Randys Futter (Milch und Braten) unglaublich fett geworden und sind nun - wie auch Nick und ich - auf Diaet.

While we were in Europe, we missed the two weeks of winter with lots of snow. Now it is pretty warm and sunny again. Our neighbor Randy had to deal with all the work in the snow but Nick's mother JoAnn cooked for him. Gauge and Penny got really fat thanks to Randy's feeding (milk and roast). They - as well as Nick and I - are on a diet now.

Nick und ich waren gerade zwei Wochen in Europa, bei meiner Familie in Norddeutschland und ein paar Tage in London. Nick hatte sich darauf gefreut, dort in Englisch zu kommunizieren, hatte aber so seine Probleme, da es schwierig war, unter den Immigranten aus aller Welt ueberhaupt "echte" Englaender zu finden ... und die hatten dann auch einen komischen Akzent ;-)

Nick and I have spent the last two weeks in Europe, with my family in Northern Germany and a few days in London. Nick was looking forward to communicate in English there but he was surprised: With the immigrants from all over the world it was difficult to find "original" English people ... and then they had a funny accent as well ;-)

Mein Vater hat obiges Bild aus seiner Dia-Sammlung herausgekramt. Pferde haben es mir schon immer angetan, obwohl ich sie im Alter zwischen 15 und 30 irgendwie aus den Augen verloren hatte. Naja, zum Glueck habe ich mich wieder an sie erinnert. Damit Ihr nicht auf falsche Gedanken kommt: In New Haven wird in Jeans und Stiefeln geritten, nicht in Kleid und Sandalen.

My father found the picture above in his collection of slides. Guess I have always loved horses even though I lost sight of them somehow between the age of 15 and 30. Good luck, I remembered them then again. Not to get any wrong ideas: We ride in jeans and boots in New Haven, not in dress and sandals.

Am Dienstag werden wir - hoffentlich - wieder auf der Ranch sein. Dann melde ich mich wieder mit einem "richtigen" Blog.

On Tuesday we will - hopefully - be back on the ranch. Will write a "real" blog then.

Das weiss ich sicher: Naechstes Jahr werde ich fuer den Fotoworkshop eine Koechin anheuern. Das Kochen hat zwar Spass gebracht, ich bin aber nur ein Mal fuer eine Stunde beim Fotoshooting dabei gewesen. Und dieses Jahr sind noch tollere Bilder entstanden als im vergangenen Jahr, z.B. im Schneetreiben. Jetzt kann ich nur noch hoffen, dass Les und die Teilnehmer mir bald ein paar Kostproben schicken. Jeder von ihnen hat um die 5000 bis 6000 Bilder geschossen. Die Teilnehmer kamen aus Texas, Boston, Washington State, Colorado und sogar Australien.

This I know for sure: Next year I will hire a cook for the photo workshop. I enjoyed the cooking but I only got to watch the photoshooting once for one hour. And this year the pics are even more spectacular than last year, i.e. riders in the falling snow. Now I can only hope that Les and the participants will soon send some teasers. Everyone of them took about 5000 to 6000 photos. The participants came from Texas, Boston, Washington State, Colorado and even Australia.

Heute abend soll meine neue Kamera kommen. Das waere dann noch gerade rechtzeitig zum Cowboy-Winter-Foto-Workshop. Fotograf Les und die Gaeste kommen heute an. Models werden unsere Nachbarn Wace und Michael (Philips Bruder) sein sowie Les Bruder Tommy und am Wochenende auch Wes und Andrea. Tav kommt erst im Maerz zurueck zur Ranch.

Tonight my new camera is supposed to be delivered. That would be just in time for our cowboy winter photo workshop. Photographer Les and the guests are coming today. Models will be our neighbors Wace and Michael (Philip's brother) as well as Les' brother Tommy and on the weekend Wes and Andrea. Tav is coming back to the ranch in March.

Morgen um 5.30 Uhr geht es los ... fuer mich allerdings frueher, da ich dieses Jahr Koechin und Haushaelterin bin. Hoffentlich komme ich auch ein bisschen zum Fotografieren.

Tomorrow we will start at 5.30 am ... well, I will start earlier since this year I am the cook and the housekeeper. Hopefully I get to take some pictures as well.

Das Foto oben wurde im Winter 2011 geschossen, als wir im Schnee versanken. Dieses Jahr ist es deutlich milder, und es ist nur wenig Weiss zu sehen.

The picture above was shot in winter of 2011 when we drowned in snow. This year is clearly milder and there is little white to see.
