Ich kann vor Hitze gar nicht mehr denken, aber morgen soll es endlich etwas abkuehlen. Ueber Regen - wie in Europa - kann sich hier (leider!) keiner beklagen. Wir haben gut zu tun. An einem Tag haben wir einem Nachbarn geholfen, wo die Haenge so steil waren, dass sogar Nick abgestiegen ist. Am Tag danach sind wir nach Sued Dakota gefahren, um Rinder in der weiten Praerie zu treiben.

My brain is drying out, I cannot think in this heat anymore. It's supposed to be cooler tomorrow. ]Unfortunately, we cannot complain about too much rain - as in Europe. We are quite busy. One day we helped a neighbor where the slopes were so steep that even Nick got off the horse. Another day we moved cattle in the open prairie of South Dakota.

Brandings, Schiessen, Team Penning, Ropen ... und kleine Tierbabies ueberall. Nicks Toechter und Enkel sind abgereist, auch Kathrin, Oli, Claudia, Harri, Manuel und Urs. Toby, Anna und Silke sind noch da. Weiss gar nicht, was ich ohne Euch machen soll, wenn Ihr abreist. Neu dabei: Janice und Peter aus England, Robbie (lang, lang ist's her) und Tanja aus Deutschland. Und natuerlich lang ersehnt: Tine und Sabine.

Brandings, shooting, team penning, roping ... and lots of animal babies everywhere. Nick's daughters and grandkids have left, also Kathrin, Oli, Harri, Claudia, Manuel and Urs. Toby, Anna and Silke are still here. Don't know what to do when you guys leave. New: Janice and Peter from GB, Robbie (long time ago) and Tanja from Germany. And of course own Tine and Sabine.

Hi Buddy, bye Tequila!

Kitz Buddy gedeiht, dafuer haben wir jetzt nach langer Suche Tequila (unseren neuen Bueffel) gefunden: tot. Warum sie gestorben ist, wissen wir leider nicht.

Buddy, the fawn, is doing well but Tequila is not. After several weeks we finally found our new buffalo: dead. Unfortunately, we don't know why she died.

Brandy, Nikki, Emmett, Bridger, Garrett und Lark sind noch auf Besuch. Nach Patch wird Brandy auch Scotch nach Sued-Dakota mitnehmen. Patch wird langsam alt, und Scotch hat sich leider nie von seiner Verletzung erholt und ist immer noch lahm - kleine Kinder kann er aber noch herumtragen.

Brandy, Nikki, Emmett, Bridger, Garrett and Lark are still visiting. After Patch, Brandy will also take Scotch to South Dakota. Patch is getting old and Scotch has never recovered from his injury and is still lame - but he can still carry little kids around.

Aufgrund der Duerre muessen wir uns ganz genau ueberlegen, welche Pferde wir behalten und welche nicht. Leider werde ich fuer meine Beiden, Stella und Doc, ein neues Heim finden muessen, da sie nicht mehr reitbar sind. Und auch Gordo wird gehen muessen.

Due to the drought we have to seriously consider which horses to keep and which not. Unfortunately, I will have to find a new home for my two, Stella and Doc, because they are not rideable anymore. And Gordo will have to go as well.

Wir haben wie immer viel zu tun, aber zwischendurch kuehlen wir uns regelmaessig im See ab.

We are pretty busy as usual but in between we regularly cool off in the lake.

Zeit, Zeit, Zeit ... daran mangelt es mir momentan. Morgen gibt es einen neuen Blog. Mit einem Foto von unserem neuesten Familienzuwachs: Buddy - ein Kitz. Natalie, Michele, Karo, Frank und Sabine sind schon wieder weg, dafuer sind heute Silke, Lisa, Urs und Manuel angekommen. Das Wetter ist heisser und trockener denn je ... wir haben die Hoffnung auf eine Heuernte aufgegeben, und hoffen nur, dass das Gras reicht und es nicht allzu viele Feuer geben wird. Da meine geliebte Stella aufgrund von Hufrolle nicht mehr reitbar ist, bin ich nun auf Bruno umgestiegen - ein Unterschied wie Feuer und Wasser, aber ebenfalls eine Herausforderung.

Time, time, time ... that's what I don't have right now. There will be a new blog tomorrow. With a photo of our newest family member: Buddy - a fawn. Natalie, Michele, Karo, Frank and Sabine have left, Silke, Lisa, Urs and Manuel arrived. The weather is hotter and dryer than ever ... we have given up the hope for a hay crop and hope that there will be enough grass and not too many fires. Since my beloved Stella is not rideable anymore due to navicular disease, I took Bruno over as my horse - a difference like fire and water but a challenge as well.

Eine geschaeftige Woche / A busy week

Dieser Blog sollte eigentlich schon seit einer Woche online stehen, aber wir hatten so viel zu tun (ein Viehtrieb nach dem anderen). Und am Wochenende fand das Hulett Rodeo statt, auf dem Tav einen Bullen ritt. Ein Foto zeige ich Euch im naechsten Blog. Ob es eine besonders gute Idee ist, einen Bullen zu reiten? Das sei dahin gestellt ;-)

This blog should have been online a week ago but we were so busy (one cattle drive after another). And on the weekend we visited the Hulett rodeo where Tav rode a bull. A photo of it will be shown in the next blog. Is it really a good idea to ride a bull? Well, don't expect me to comment on that ;-)

Anke und Claudia sind mittlerweile abgereist. Angekommen sind Wiederholungstaeter Sabine, Frank und Anna. Ausserdem: Claudia und Harry, Kathrin und Oli, Michele, Natalie und Toby. Auch Nicks Toechter Brandy und Nikki und ihre vier Kinder sind gerade zu Besuch. Kat kam und ging - zu schnell.

Anke and Claudia have left. Repeaters Sabine, Frank and Anna have arrived, also Kathrin and Oli, Claudia and Harry, Michele, Natalie and Toby. And Nick's daughters Brandy and Nikki and their four kids are visiting as well right now. Kat came and left - too soon.

Und schon wieder hat der Tag nicht genuegend Stunden: deshalb heute nur ein Foto von Tav, der beim heutigen 8-stuendigen Viehtrieb ein Kalb aufsammeln musste, das krank war und die lange Strecke nicht allein laufen konnte. Pferd Whiskey war nicht begeistert.

And again the day does not have enough hours: thus, today just a photo of Tav who during today's 8-hour cattle drive picked up a calf which was sick and could not run the whole distance himself. Horse Whiskey was not amused.

Team Penning

Wenn wir nicht die eigenen Rinder treiben, dann die von Nachbarn ... trotzdem haben wir einen Nachmittag gefunden, an dem wir - nach einer Schiessstunde mit Pistole und Gewehr - Team Penning gemacht haben. Anbei Angies Action-Fotos.

When we don't move our own cattle, we help neighbors move theirs ... nevertheless we found one afternoon on which we - after some shooting lessons with pistol and rifle - did some team penning. Attached Angie's action shots.

Nach all den diversen Kueken (ja, Humphry geht es gut), Bueffelkind (leider momentan fluechtig) und Katzenbabies (immer noch Uneinigkeit ueber die Namen) werden jetzt die ersten Laemmer geboren. Fotos folgen. Morgen gehts aber erstmal zum Mount Rushmore.

After various chicks (yes, Humphry is well), a buffalo baby (unfortunately gone right now) and kittens (we still haven't agreed on names) the first lambs are born these days. Photos soon. Tomorrow we'll go and visit Mount Rushmore.
