Heute waren wir bei einem Branding, morgen muessen wir Rinder treiben, am Donnerstag geht es zum Rodeo, Freitag reiten wir nach Hulett, und am Sonntag findet eine Pferdeauktion statt. Langeweile kommt nicht auf. Anbei ein paar neue Bilder (vielen Dank an die Fotografen).

Today we were at a branding, tomorrow we need to move cattle, on Thursday we'll go to a rodeo, Friday we'll ride to Hulett and on Sunday there will be a horse sale. No time to be bored. Attached a few new pics (thanks to the photographers).

Wir haben einem Nachbarn geholfen, Rinder zu treiben. Er, Nick, Hap und ich sind nicht auf dem Bild. Wir hatten die ganze Woche viel zu tun. Heute Abend gehts in die Ponderosa Bar. Nachtraeglich Lisas 21. Geburtstag feiern!

We helped a neighbor move cattle. He, Nick, Hap and I are not on the picture. We were busy all week. Tonight we are going to the Ponderosa Ranch. Celebrating Lisa's 21st birthday one week too late!

Kuel bleiben / Staying cool

Unsere Pferde am Morgen / Our horses in the morning

Ich habe ganz viele neue Fotos, werde aber erst im Laufe des Tages dazu kommen, sie zu sortieren und zu bearbeiten. Manchmal hole ich morgens die Pferde rein ... ein schoener Anblick, wie man oben sieht.

I have a bunch of new photos but won't be able to sort and edit them till later. Sometimes I get the horses in in the morning ... a beautiful view as you can see above.

Unser neuer Wrangler, Hap, hat seine Arbeit begonnen. Am Mittwoch kamen - wie angekuendigt - Melanie, Carsten und Gordana an. Kat ist krank geworden und konnte doch nicht fliegen. Seit Samstag sind auch Astrid, Harald und Tochter Bianca hier sowie Sanny, alle aus Deutschland. Dafuer mussten wir uns von Sonja, Cristin, Kathy und Pia trennen, die aber angedroht haben, wiederzukommen ;-) Marie geniesst drei Wochen auf der Ranch.

Our new wrangler, Hap, started work. On Wednesday Melanie, Carsten and Gordana arrived - as mentioned. Kat got sick and could not fly back. And on Saturday Astrid, Harald and their daughter  Bianca as well as Sanny came in - all from Germany. We had to say bye to Sonja, Cristin, Kathy and Pia who threatened to come back next year ;-) Marie is enjoying three weeks on the ranch.

Die Temperaturen sind etwas gesunken. Ich fuehle mich wieder mehr als Mensch ... und habe mit Bruno auch an einigen Cattle Drives bei Nachbarn teilgenommen. Die Anderen halten mich fuer verrueckt, aber ich freue mich auf den Herbst. Wenn ich immer Hitze wollte, koennte ich auch in die Tropen ziehen ...

The temps have fallen a bit. I feel more like a a human again ... and together with Bruno have participated in a few cattle drives at the neighbors'. The others think I am crazy but I am looking forward to fall. If I wanted heat all the time, I would have moved to the tropics ...

Die "Boys" und andere Maennergeschichten / The "boys" and other stories about men

Wir bringen Ausreisser zurueck zur Herde / We are bringing strays back to the herd

Die Sturgis Motorrad-Rally ist auf ihrem Hoehepunkt. Morgen werden wir nach Hulett fahren, um uns den Trubel anzuschauen. Am Sonntag waren viele von uns schon auf einem Konzert der Zac Brown Band, am Donnerstag kommt Sugarland.

This is the main week of the Sturgis motorcycle rally. Tomorrow we'll go to Hulett to have a look at all the hustle and bustle. On Sunday many of us went to a concert of the Zac Brown Band, on Thursday Sugarland will perform.

Gestern bin ich mal wieder Bruno geritten, der sich trotz eines Viertelanteil Kaltbluts als sehr cowy erweist. Sonja, Cristin, Marie, Kathy und ich haben erst ein paar Ausreisser zur Herde zurueckgebracht, dann ein krankes Tier aus der Herde sortiert, das Nick, Kat und Pia im Trailer zur Ranch brachten, und zuletzt unsere Corriente-Herde gesucht, gefunden und in der Daemmerung zur Ranch getrieben. Es war nach 21 Uhr, als wir endlich unser leckeres Steak essen konnten.

Yesterday, I rode Bruno again who despite being one quarter draft is very cowy. Sonja, Cristin, Marie, Kathy and I first brought some strays back to the herd, then sorted out a sick animal which Nick, Kat and Pia put in the trailer and brought back to the ranch, and last but not least searched for and found our Corriente herd and moved them back to the ranch during dusk. It was past 9 pm when we could finally enjoy our delicious steaks.

Captain wird langsam zum Herdenfuehrer, bin noch nicht ganz sicher, ob Juno nach zehn Jahren seine Position protestlos aufgeben wird. Nach langem Hin und Her haben wir uns endlich auf Namen fuer unsere Katerchen einigen koennen: Tango und Cash. Aber jeder ruft sie eh nur "Boys".

Captain seems to become the herd leader but I am not sure, yet if Juno will give up his ten-year pole position without protest. After long discussions we finally agreed on names for our little tom cats: Tango and Cash. But everyone just calls them "boys" anyway.

Unsere "Golden Girls" Pam, Cher und Diane sind abgereist, ebenso "Inventar" Anja. Dafuer ist jetzt Marie hier, und morgen reisen Carsten, Melanie und Gordana an. Auch Kat wird mal wieder fuer ein paar Wochen nach Afrika fliegen, bevor sie im September zurueckkommt.

Our "Golden Girls" Pam, Cher and Diane have left, also "inventory" Anja. Marie has arrived. And on Wednesday Carsten, Melanie and Gordana will follow. Kat will leave for a few weeks to go to Africa before she'll be back in September.

Wir hatten eine schoene Woche. Heute sind noch mal alle mit Nick unterwegs, um Bashars Bullen zu finden. Auf einer fast 1000 Hektar grossen Koppel ... na dann ...

Immer wieder bekomme ich "Beschwerden", dass ich im Blog nicht alles schreibe, was hier so passiert. Ich weiss, dass es in Zeiten von Facebook und Twitter keine Geheimnisse mehr gibt, aber obwohl auch ich hin und wieder Klatsch geniesse, gehoeren eben einige Dinge nicht hierher. Ich plane allerdings, irgendwann mal einen Enthuellungsroman zu schreiben - Material gibt es mehr als genug - aber selbstverstaendlich mit geaenderten Namen: Aehnlichkeiten mit realen Personen waeren natuerlich rein zufaellig :-)

Again and again I get "complaints" about not mentioning everything that's happening on the ranch. I know that in times of Facebook and Twitter there are no secrets anymore but even though I enjoy some gossip myself once in a while, some things should not be mentioned in this blog. I am planning to some time in the future write a juicy novel - there is plenty of material - but with changed names: Similarities with real people would of course be pure accident ;-)

Diese Woche sind Pam, Diane, Cher und Kathy aus Florida zu Besuch, ausserdem Pia aus Finnland (die aber in Saudiarabien arbeitet), Sonja (Viele Gruesse an Sandra!) und Cristin (Wiederholungstaeter) aus Deutschland und natuerlich noch Anja. Heute morgen waren wir bei unserem Nachbarn Jim-Bob, um seine Bueffelherde zu sehen. Danach ging es zu unseren Amishen Nachbarn, um Zaumzeug zu kaufen. Und gleich werden wir uns trotz der Hitze wieder in den Sattel schwingen.

This week Pam, Diane, Cher and Kathy from Florida are here, also Pia from Finland (who works in Saudi Arabia), Sonja (Greetings to Sandra!) and Cristin (repeater) from Germany and Anja, of course. This morning we visited our neighbor Jim-Bob to watch his buffalo herd. After that we drove over to our Amish neighbors to buy some tack. And despite the heat we'll swing ouselves into the saddle again soon.

Am Wochenende beginnt die Motorrad-Ralley in Sturgis. Dann kommt es sogar in Wyoming mal zu Verkehrsstaus.

This weekend the Sturgis motorcycle rally is going to begin. Then even Wyoming experiences a few traffic jams here and there.
