Nick und ich waren gestern unterwegs, um uns Bullen anzuschauen, die wir kaufen wollen. Fuer unsere 125 Kuehe brauchen wir ca. 4 bis 5 Bullen. Die duerfen dann im Sommer zwei Monate bei den Damen bleiben. Wir schauen uns die Tiere jetzt an, damit wir dann zum Auktionstermin wissen, fuer welche wir bieten wollen.

Nick and I have been looking at bulls yesterday. We are planning to buy 4 to 5 for our 125 cows. In summer they will be allowed to stay with the girls for about two months. We are looking at animals now so that on sale date we know which ones to bid for.

Vielen Dank fuer alle Tipps zum Thema Jazz! Wir werden einiges davon ausprobieren (nacheinander, nicht gleichzeitig ;-) und halten Euch auf dem Laufenden.

Thanks a lot for all the advice on Jazz! We will try some of it (one thing after the other, not all simultaneously ;-) and keep you posted.

Wo ist bloss die Bedienungsanleitung fuer meine Kamera geblieben? Habe ich die ueberhaupt je gelesen? Eigentlich habe ich eh keine Zeit, beim Fotoworkshop dabei zu sein, da ich fuer die Fotografen und die Models koche, aber gestern kam Heike zu Besuch. Da sie mir beim Kochen helfen wollte, hatten wir etwas Zeit, draussen mit dabei zu sein. Meine Kamera kann viel ... ist mir aber leider immer noch ein Raetsel. Heike erging es (mit ihrer viel groesseren Kamera) nicht viel besser ... wir stellen beide immer auf Automatik ;-)

Where the heck is the manual for my camera? Have I ever read it? Actually, I don't have time for the photo workshop because I am cooking for the photographers and the models but yesterday Heike visited. Since she wanted to help with the cooking, we had some time to spend outside. My camera can do a lot ... I just don't know how to use it. Heike (who has a much bigger camera) has the same problem ... we both just shoot in automatic mode :-)

In ein paar Wochen kann ich Euch hoffentlich ein paar Fotos der Profis zeigen, die pro Tag ueber 1000 Fotos schiessen. Morgen soll es schneien ... die Fotografen (Les, Dave, Sharon und Kim) sind begeistert, die Models weniger, aber richtige Cowboys weinen nicht :-)

Hopefully, in a few weeks I can show some of the professionals' photos. They shoot more than a 1000 pics per day. Tomorrow it's supposed to snow ... the photographers (Les, Dave, Sharon and Kim) are excited ... the models less. But real cowboys don't cry :-)

Langsam finden wir unsere ewig fluechtigen Rinder wieder ... am 1. Oktober werden sie verladen und verkauft. Da waere es schon gut, wenn wir alle beieinander haetten ;-)

We are finding - one by one - our stray cattle again ... on October 1 they will be shipped and sold. Would be handy to have them all together then ;-)

Wenn wir keine Rinder jagen, machen wir auch mal ganz entspannte Ausritte, wie die Bilder in diesem Blog zeigen. Nur Doug und Dave sind leider schon abgereist ... eine Woche vergeht schnell.

When we don't chase cattle, we go on relaxing trail rides as the pics in this blog show. Just Doug and Dave have left already ... a week is short.

Nick und ich waren am Samstag auf einer grossen Hochzeit mit Tanz. Ausserdem waren Brandy, Brandon und ihre Jungs zu Besuch.

Nick and I went to a big wedding and dance on Saturday. And Brandy, Brandon and the boys came on a visit as well.

"Richtige" Cowboys / "Real" cowboys

Die vergangenen Tage wurden wieder von Rinderarbeit bestimmt. Seit Mittwoch sind auch Lorraine aus Upstate New York und Matthias und Sabine aus Deutschland dabei. Dave und Doug arbeiten daran, wie richtige Cowboys auszusehen (Betonung auf "6-pack belly"), sonst lassen ihre Frauen die Beiden nicht nach Hause kommen. Und Iris ist mittlerweile tiefenentspannt.

The last few days saw a lot of cattle work again. On Wednesday, Lorraine from Upstate New York and Matthias and Sabine from Germany joined the guest team. Dave and Doug are working on looking like "real" cowboys (which means "6-pack bellies"), otherwise their wives won't let them come home. And Iris is more than relaxed.

Poco ist noch lahm, aber auf dem Weg der Besserung. Romina arbeitet fleissig mit Dun It, der sehr gut trainiert ist, aber im Gelaende noch einiges zu lernen hat. Und ich reite weiterhin Bruno, der grundsaetzlich willig, aber hin und wieder auch eigenwillig ist.

Poco is still lame but getting better. Romina is working with Dun It who is very well trained but needs more experience in our terrain. And I am still riding Bruno who is usually very willing but once in a while willful, too.

Ja, Buddy und Hannah geht es gut. Auch Gauge und den Katzen. Rita und Romina haben nicht mehr allzuviel Zeit in Wyoming uebrig und denken schon mit Wehmut an ihre Abreise. Unsere Saison endet am 13. Oktober ... und dann muss ich endlich mal die Webseite updaten.

Yes, Buddy and Hannah are fine. Gauge and the cats also. Rita and Romina don't have much time left in Wyoming and don't want to think about their departure. Our season ends October 13 ... and then I really have to update the webpage.

Brandy und ihre Familie werden auf eine Ranch in Jordan, Montana ziehen und nicht wieder nach Sued-Dakota zurueckkehren. Wir planen, sie an Weihnachten zu besuchen.

Brandy and her family are moving onto a ranch in Jordan, Montana and won't come back to South Dakota. We are planning on visiting them for Christmas.

Change of guests on Saturday: The old group left, a new one is here (see above). It's been getting cooler, still sunny and with dust everywhere. Still no rain in sight. Tomorrow we will move our cattle to a new pasture, there is little grass left. More in the next blog.

Vor ein paar Jahren habe ich Steffi geholfen, einen Job auf einer Nachbarranch zu bekommen. Dort verliebte sie sich in Justin, den damaligen Jagdguide. Seit zwei Jahren sind die Beiden nun verheiratet und leben in Nevada. Jetzt haben sie uns endlich mal wieder besucht (hier mit Vegas und Tucker). /
A few years ago I helped Steffi find a job on a neighboring ranch. Once there, she fell in love with Justin, who worked as a hunting guide then. The two have been married for two years now and live in Nevada. This September they finally came to visit again (here with Vegas and Tucker).
